Heartsaver CT – April 9, 2023

I’ve been reading a number of studies lately that verify my long-held belief that the relatively non-invasive, rapid coronary artery calcium score or Heartsaver CT is an excellent screening test for cardiovascular disease and the risk of heart attack. Although, I’ve been using this particular test with my patients for several decades, it’s nice to get confirmation through reputable studies.

One of the reasons I’ve liked the Heartsaver CT is that it uses very little radiation. No contrast dye is used, which can be toxic, and it is a very quick and inexpensive procedure. Combining the Heartsaver CT with comprehensive and specific blood tests gives me a good insight on cardiac risk and ways to intervene to help prevent heart disease

Along with laboratory testing and the Heartsaver CT, I’ve used a variety of supplements over the years with my patients that can also be very helpful in treating heart disease. Of course, exercise, dietary changes and weight loss, although hard to do, are crucial to overall heart health.

In the early years of my practice, I learned how to open up the diaphragm with osteopathic manipulation from a renowned healer, Dr. Robert Fulford, D.O. This technique can help patients to better cope with stress, improve breathing, reduce anxiety as well as enhance overall well-being. That’s always a good thing.

Because stress management is so important for a variety of conditions, but specifically, with heart health – I like to monitor adrenal function through labs and then treating any adrenal dysfunction that may be found. Another useful tool in managing anxiety and stress is EEG neurofeedback, an interesting technique which we do in the office.

If you’re concerned about heart disease and it’s prevention or have questions about any of the information I’ve discussed, please give our office a call and we will be happy to help you.

Here’s to good heart health!
